ABOUT THE WORK
“High Society Hangover” captures a moment of reckoning—late Warhol, detaching from the glittering world he once helped construct, sobering up from the intoxication of wealth, fame, and superficial glamour to sold to his collectors. The painting nods to the parallel lens of of Slim Aarons, whose images chronicled the same glossy elite. But where Aarons documented, Warhol ascended—with precision and purpose, always with an endgame in sight.
For H. Rahr, the path was similar: nearly two decades spent building a self-made life at the height of luxury. He achieved what many pursue, only to recognize its hollowness mid-pursuit. In response, he and his wife Hannah chose to step away—selling their hillside home in Bel Air CA to live nomadically in the high and low deserts, trading status and recognition for solitude and sunlight.
Created for collectors of Warhol—those who see beyond the glamour and value art that confronts it.
This piece stands as both critique and confession—a portrait of ambition after its peak, and the clarity that comes once the noise fades.
